An Unexpected Thanksgiving 2009

We didn't know what we were going to do for Thanksgiving this year because Daniel has been unemployed since February this year and didn't have a "paid vacation" to take to go to Texas as we usually do in the past years. Plus all of our friends here had plans with their families or were leaving to visit them. I bought a turkey for the first time in my life...what a big and heavy bird it was, and I had no clue how to cook it. Thank goodness four days before Thanksgiving Lauren Ross, a sister from our ward, asked Daniel if we wanted to spend it with them since they didn't have any family to spend it with either. So I called Lucas' preschool teacher and asked her if she knew someone who would want or need a turkey. She found one family, so I gave it to them, and I didn't have to cook the turkey, yay! It felt so good knowing that someone else would eat it and enjoy it. We had a great time with the Ross'. They have two children: Jordan who is 16, and Patric who just returned home from his mission this past July. We brought empanadas which I usually always make because people here seem to like them and they are simple to make. I also made bacon-wrapped-smokies which usually everyone loves. And they were gone fast. But the best part of the night was the dogs. They have three big dogs and a little one. The boys loved playing with them and feeding them turkey and pie with a fork. They also gave the dogs lots of treats, I think too many, but I guess it was okay because it was Thanksgiving. We also played the card games Swap and Boom. Here are some pics of the night. Thanks Ross' for having us over and making us feel so welcomed.

Yay for not having to cook the turkey! I alway tell Casey the day I have to make Thanksgiving dinner is the day we stop having a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.
