Pinewood Derby Race

This year was Mateo's first Pinewood Derby Race in Cub Scouts. He and Papa worked very hard creating their car for the race. If you have gone through this before, you probably know that the car has to meet certain requirements and specifications. The main requirement is that it has to weigh 5 onces exactly, not less not more. Also if you want the car to be fast, you have to align the weight either in back,the front or in the middle of the car depending on the track that will be used for the race. For this race, Daniel was told that for this type of track, it was better to have the weight on the back. Mateo got to pick the design of his car, the color, and the theme. He named it the "The Screeming Eagle" like the Six Flags rollercoaster. He also put some numbers on top of the car, 4, 6 and 8. The 4 and 6 are the age of his brothers Lucas and Anthony, and, the 8 is Mateo's age. Since Mateo was little, he has always tried to include his brothers in everything. Mateo was really excited about this race and was sure he would win it. When he saw the trophies for the race at the church, he was saying how excited he was because he was going to win his first trophy in his life. He didn't place in the top three, so he didn't get a trophy. However, he won a red ribbon for the most aunthentic car. That got him through the dissapointment of not winning the trophy. At the end, I told him that it was not about winning but about doing your best and having fun.
